Microsoft word is probably the most commonly used educational technology in my k-12 and college experience. I've used word to write papers, write notes, answer homework question, and much more. I have not used any other word processing software because i was introduced and taught how to use Microsoft word first, so I am more comfortable using word than trying to learn a new software. i believe word was more commonly used when/where I was growing up, and nowadays its more of an even mixture.
The ISTE standard that resonated the most with me was the educational leader standard. The ISTE wants educators to seek out opportunities of leadership to support student empowerment/success and to improve teaching and learning. I was unaware that there were/are standards or requirements for teacher educating their students on the digital world. One concern I have is that students do not always have access to these technological tools. Not everyone has a several hundred dollar laptop that they can bring to class. The socioeconomic status of the students should not be a factor in their education, and expecting everyone to bring their own device is only encouraging this disparity.
I agree the using of the term "digital native" in a way to describe the generation as a group. I believe as you get down to the individual children, some of them are digital native, and some of them are not. I do not agree that we could identify a digital native just by age. Being a digital native means that technological complexities that may confuse other people come naturally to you, or it is easier for you to understand or learn them. In my experiences, teachers typically used technology in a limited capacity. Not necessarily that they did not use technology often, but they did not use it very effectively. For example, some of my teachers in the past struggle to remember how to put a presentation into the correct view, and they will call on a student to help them, this slows down or delays the information being explained or taught.
