Blog Journal #4
In my personal experience before this class, a lot of the teacher related content I saw on the internet was more of an informal way to find solutions to their issues. For example, a new teacher might post a video talking about some trouble they ran into during a lesson or in the classroom. Other teachers on the app can comment on the post. They can even respond with another video, if a more visual response would be better.
I got to experience a little bit of both ends of the digital divide in my k-12 education. In elementary school, I grew up in a poorer area, therefore my schools had less technological resources. Most classrooms in my school didn't have smartboards or much technology outside of those classic old school projectors. This led to my elementary education being more hands on, and with more practice of the skills. When I moved to Florida for middle and high school we moved to a more affluent area, and technology was prevalent. Every classroom had at least one smartboard, some had two, and the school had multiple laptop carts with 30-40 laptops each. I have noticed that my education in Florida, with more technology, was more memory based, more PowerPoints and educational videos. I feel like technology certainly was beneficial in my educational experience, but hands on experience practicing new skills is an extremely important learning technique.
Collaborative writing can be very beneficial in someone's learning experience. It can give students an opportunity to learn different writing styles, and adapt their own. Social annotation is important because it improves students' ability to critically analyze writing, ultimately helping the, improve their own writing. Some software tools I plan to use in my classroom are kahoot, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word/ Google docs, depending on students' personal preference.
A loose lesson plan I could use is:
Use PowerPoint to present the information for the first time.
Assign a writing assignment.
Then do a kahoot in class.
Assign small groups, maybe 5-7 per class, assign them to pick one part of the lesson to make a presentation on.
Present the PowerPoint/ Google Slideshow in front of the class.
